Data Contract Validation
Overview
Executive summary
A data contract is a formal agreement between a data provider and a data consumer. The data provider
commits to delivering data that meets specific standards, especially a schema and fundamental data quality constraints.
A written commitment sets the right expectation, but accountability requires a mechanism to check
whether the data actually lives up to the expectations or not. This packaged solution allows you to
validate your data contracts in Collibra against the data source and identify any breaches, so you can
take remedial action. It puts the “trust but verify” principle into practice.
Solution outline
End users can start a workflow on the data contract asset page in Collibra which asynchronously sends
the data contract manifest to the datacontract-cli via an Edge connection. They receive an email with the
detailed validation results. Additionally, the workflow sets the “Last Validation Date” and “Validation
Results” attributes on the data contract assets to make the results transparent to all Collibra users.
