Overview

Monitoring has become a key component of a complete Data Governance and Compliance practice. As part of a sustained Data Governance program, monitoring holds the key to better decision making, as its outputs enable Chief Data Officers to assess the progress of their initiatives and locate stewardship trends. The automated and ongoing enforcement of policies and standards help identify inefficiencies in an organization, allowing you to take steps towards improving the consistency, accuracy and reliability of your data.

The Governance Scorecard measures the performance of Data Governance efforts by tracking key metrics for Critical Data Elements based on Business Dimensions used in an organization. An important measure of success of Data Governance program is the level of engagement, participation and influence the Data Governance program is having. The Governance Scorecard helps answer engagement questions such as:

  • How many Critical Data Elements (CDEs) have a dedicated stewardship resource assigned?
  • Are those Business Stewards actively participating in stewardship activities?
  • Are CDEs progressing through the expected life cycle?
  • Are relations to physical data assets and source systems defined?

Answers to questions such as these help early stage Data Governance efforts show progress to its sponsors as drivers work to operationalize Data Management efforts. Monitoring is a means to measure the value and effectiveness of Data Governance efforts, enabling further support in terms of continuous sponsorship, resources, funding or prioritization.

This accelerator is particularly useful for monitoring and reporting on activities around BCBS 239, CCAR, and COREP regulations among other regulations.
